BLOOMINGTON -You’ll need extra time to get to your destination today as freezing rain coats the Bloomington-Normal area.
There are numerous power outages and roads are slick.
“There’s going to be different flooding in areas so we’re asking for you to drive slowly and carefully on the roads while the temperatures are hovering around freezing,” said Bloomington Public Works Director Jim Karch. “Driveways can be slick, icy front porches can be slick.”
Bloomington Public Works Director Jim Karch tells us trees have also been reported down on several area roads.
Karch advises you to continue to call your power company to notify them if your power goes out.
The town of Normal is dealing with some slushy roadways. Streets Supervisor Scott Dennewitz said nothing has frozen over, though.
“We have a little slush buildup on some of the bridge decks but it’s not really slick, it’s more of a slush,” Dennewitz said. “We’ve been salting the bridge decks but other than that, everything is good.”
But Dennewitz said conditions can change quickly and drivers should give more space to other drivers on the roads.
The following roads in Bloomington are closed due to down tree limbs:
Grove Street between State Street and Leland Street
East Street between Division Street and Kelsey Street
Grove Street between Morris and Western
Oakland between Harbord and Maple
Fremont Street between Clayton Street and Clinton Street
Bell Street east of Hannah
West Jackson between Allin and Morris Avenue
Oakland Avenue between Center Street and Madison Street
Allin Street between Walnut Street and O’Hara Street
These streets are temporarily closed; the city’s forresters are working to clear trees and limbs that are blocking streets as quickly as possible.

Dry Grove Township Supervisor Jim Phillips said Jolly Lake Road is closed between Illinois Route 9 and Yuton Road and McLean County 750 East Road is closed between 1550 North and 1540 North roads due to flooding.
Phillips adds there are multiple lines down on Old Peoria Road between McLean County 1000 East and 750 East roads while there is a tree blocking an entrance to the Lora Trace subdivision.
