State Farm Holiday Classic: Day 2

WJBC had coverage from five games on day two of the State Farm Holiday Classic.

Large School Girls

No. 14 Bloomington 57, No. 11 Geneseo 46.

The Purple Raiders won its first consolation game of the State Farm Holiday Classic, taking down Geneseo. BHS’s Ellie Weltha led all scorers with 26 points, while Kamaria Gant added 10. Geneseo’s Renee Rumler was the only member of her team scoring in double figures with 18 points. Bloomington advances in the consolation bracket to take on No. 15 and intercity rival, Normal West at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Normal West’s Gym A.

No. 15 Normal West 51, No. 10 Mahomet-Seymour 40.

The Wildcats also on its first consolation game, setting up a Big 12 and intercity matchup with rival, Bloomington.  Maya Walker led NCWHS’ balanced scoring attack collecting a team high 10 points.  Seven other Wildcats scored. Mahomet-Seymour was led Jordan Hackmann, who was the lone Bulldog in double digits, scoring 12 points.

No. 5 Rochester 35, U-High 29

The Pioneers will take on No. 1 Morton Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at NCHS’ Gym A.

Normal Community will play Wednesday at 4 p.m. at NCHS’ Gym B.

Small School Girls:

No. 6 Central Catholic 61, No. 3 Annawan 56

Central Catholic advances to the semifinals of the Small School Girls division of the State Farm Holiday Classic. The Saints will take on No. 2 Rockford-Lutheran at 7 p.m. at NCHS’ Gym A on Wednesday.

Large School Boys:

No. 1 Chicago North Lawndale 53, No 9. Normal Community 47.

NCHS’ Jim Leone scored just under half his team’s points, collecting a game-high 23 in the Iornmen’s second round loss to Chicago North Lawndale. North Lawndale was led by Carlos Hines’ 21 points. Normal Community will play Wheaton-Warrenville South Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Normal West’s Gym B.

No. 4 U-High 73, No. 5 Wheaton-Warrenville South 45.

The Pioneers advanced to the semifinals of the Large School Boys division to take on No. 1 Chicago North Lawndale. The teams will play at 9:00 p.m. at Illinois Wesleyan’s Shirk Center.

The Saints advanced to take on No. 1 Rockford Lutheran in the semifinals of the Small School Boys division at 6 p.m. at the Shirk Center.
