BLOOMINGTON – Children who have been exposed to trauma will soon be comforted by a courtroom dog. Courtroom dogs were made legal by a new law that went into effect January 1st.

Judy Brucker is with the Children’s Advocacy Center.

“It’s an amazing thing to see in action,” said Brucker. “When you have a child, imagine, you have a small child or any child in the courtroom it’s a very nerve-racking experience. They’re up on the witness stand and they are fidgeting.”

The dog will be shared by the Children’s Advocacy center and the prosecutor’s office. Many of the children served by the dog have been victims of sexual abuse.

McLean county is still on a waiting list for the dog.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
