BLOOMINGTON – U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Peoria) is reserving judgment when it comes to deciding if he's in favor of or against sending ground troops to combat ISIS.
Schock said he would first need to see what President Barack Obama's plan would be if he decides to send troops.
"He's been very public saying he's not going to send troops," said Schock. "If he were to come forward with a proposal to do that I would study that proposal very carefully, and he's got a plan that makes sense of course I'm going to support it.
"But I will reserve judgment based on what his proposal is and based on whatever supporting evidence he puts with it."
Schock said has supported Obama's request for funding for authorization to train troops.
"There's certainly areas where I don't agree with the president; I've been public about that," said Schock. "But at the end of the day my votes really have been in support of what he's requested in terms of funding and authorization for force because I think it's important that we stand united to the world when it comes to supporting our commander-in-chief."
Schock added the president should be given the "latitude" to run these types of conflicts, but he should also listen to the generals and military experts on the ground.
