Catherine Poole, 98, of Joliet, formerly of Bloomington, passed away at 12:39 p.m. on Feb. 20 at Presence Villa Franciscan in Joliet.
Her funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Union Missionary Baptist Church in Bloomington. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the service at the church. The family of Catherine has entrusted Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington to handle arrangements for their loved one.
Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Bloomington. Memorials may be made In Catherine’s name to Union Missionary Baptist Church Mother’s Board.
Catherine was born on July 10, 1917 in Osceola, Arkansas a daughter to Robert and Bazona (Lewis) Boykin. She married Kerney Poole on June 17, 1950 in Joliet. He preceded her in death on May 29, 1986.
Surviving is her sister, Alona Kirksey of Baltimore, Md.; grandchildren, Karen (Henry) Williams of Joliet, William Gant Jr. of Grand Rapids, Miss., Jerry Poole of Bloomington, Mitchell Gant, Michael Gant, Kathy Gant, all of Joliet and Sandra (Eugene) Gaskin of Plainfield; and a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, great great great grandchildren; nephew Andre Kirksey (Stacy) and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step mother, Augusta Boykin, daughter, Adarine Gant, son in-law, William Gant Sr., granddaughter, Jacqueline Gant, and brother, Eugene Boykin.
Catherine was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church. She served in the church as a Sunday school teacher, an usher, Deaconess and was very active on the Mother’s Board.
She enjoyed going out to eat and spending time with her family
