US 51 in Normal to see state roadwork

NORMAL – The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that weather permitting; work is scheduled to begin March 14 for the reconstruction of the structure carrying US 51 northbound over Surgar Creek, north of Virgina Avenue in Normal.

This project will include complete removal and replacement of the existing structure, associated earthwork and pavement replacement. US 51 Business will be reduced to one lane at this location while construction is ongoing and will be restricted to 10 feet, six inches in width.

The contractor for this $1.4 million project is Stark Excavating. The estimated completion date is Nov. 30.
