BLOOMIGNTON – The McLean County Board faces some questions after Matt Sorenson took home 49 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s election.
The four running write-in campaigns against Sorenson collect a total of 51 percent. Sorenson, the former board chairman, resigned from the board after being brought up federal fraud charges.
One of the write-in candidates, Scott Murphy of Downs, said it’s now up to Sorenson to decide what to do.
“I believe that Matt will do the honorable thing when it’s known what the honorable thing is,” said Murphy. “Right now, I don’t know what that is, whether he’s going to come through the situation that he’s in. If he’s not convicted of a felony, he can certainly come back on the board.”
Garth Nicholas of Heyworth, Mike Sumner of Downs and Diane Benjamin of Ellsworth were also running for the seat.
