SPRINGFIELD – Lawmakers are back in full force in Springfield this week.
The work may or may not focus on a state budget, but Republican leaders say that Democrats need to budge. House Minority Leader Jim Durkin said it’s the Democrats that need to make a move to get past the nine months the state has operated without a spending plan.
“What do I expect to happen? I expect the Democrats to come to their senses and say, ‘Enough’s enough. Let’s get to work and let’s put this issue to rest,'” said Durkin. “They’ve got all the propaganda and negative votes they want against the House Republicans and presumably in the Senate – move on with the business of the people.”
Durkin added there is still room for a compromise budget, but Democrats need to start the process.
