David Samuel Gutherz, 78, of Colfax passed away peacefully on April 9 at Heritage Healthcare, Bloomington; with his loved ones by his side following a courageous battle with cancer.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Friday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax. A private graveside inurnment will be held on Saturday at the Minonk Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Colfax United Methodist Church.
David was born Dec. 8, 1937 in Fennimore, Wis.; the son of Ernest and Myrtle (Nelson) Gutherz. He married Judith Ringe on Aug, 21, 1960. They had two children, Janet (Chistopher) Howick of Bloomington; and Jeff Gutherz of Champaign. David was preceded in death by his parents, one niece, Ann Uphoffand his beloved wife Judy on Aug. 1, 1997.
Survivors include his children, Janet (Christopher) Howick of Bloomington; Jeff Gutherz of Champaign; four sistersIvanelle Cunningham of Minonk; Gwen (James) Thompson of Washburn; Betty Uphoff of Washington; and Norma Haase of Benson; and many nieces and nephews that he loved very much.
David was a graduate of Minonk Schools and a graduate of Peoria Barber College. He owned and operated Dave’s Barber Shop in Colfax, IL from 1969 – 2005. He worked for Choice Cuts, Colfax from 2005 – 2015.
He served our country in the US Army from 1956 – 1959 and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of the Colfax United Methodist Church, Colfax AMVETS Post 278 and the Colfax Chamber of Commerce.
