Janice M. Stoops, 91, of Normal, passed away at 11:27 a.m., April 05 at Heritage Health in Normal.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on May 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bloomington with Rev. Ric Schneider officiating.  Private inurnment will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal.  The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bloomington, the Clare House, Bloomington or the Community Cancer Center, Normal.

Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.

Janice was born on March 24, 1925 in Hannibal, Mo., the daughter of Raymond and Vivian Hayes Rigler.  She married Marion W. Stoops on May 10, 1947 in Hannibal.  He preceded her in death on May 19, 2008.

Also surviving are four sons:  William Stoops, Normal; John (Paula) Stoops, Champaign; Robert (Deb) Stoops, Normal and Gary Stoops, San Antonio, Texas; a daughter Regina (Diane) Stoops, Pleasanton, Calif.;  grandchildren, Chris (Anastasia) Stoops, Brandy (Dan) Miklusicak, Eric Stoops, Ryan, Jack and Evan Berry, Angie and Lisa Kohl.  She also has four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother.

Janice graduated from Hannibal High School. She worked at the Pentagon in Washington D.C., for TWA in New York City and Unit #5 School District in Normal.   Jan enjoyed traveling and bicycling throughout the United States and Nova Scotia with Marion as well as volunteering at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center and The Community Cancer Center.    She was a member St. Mary’s Church, OSF St. Joesph Medical Auxiliary and Tau Epsilon Delta Sorority.

She loved to have “the wind in her face”, had a zest for life and was always up for the next adventure.
