NORMAL – The Illinois State women’s basketball program will welcome Hannah Green to the team starting next season, as she signed her National Letter of Intent, it was announced Friday by coach Barb Smith.
“We are so fortunate to have Hannah Green joining our Redbird family,” Smith said. “Hannah brings experience, maturity and leadership to our team. She is fun to watch, has great energy on the court, is a versatile scorer, an exceptional rebounder and is one of the best shot blockers I have ever seen! Hannah loves to work out and will be in the gym all the time. She is very driven and motivated to become the best she can be.”
Green, who hails from Santa Clarita, California, will have two years of eligibility at ISU and plans to major in Psychology. The 6-0 forward wrapped up a successful sophomore season at the College of the Canyons, which is also in Santa Clarita. She was named Western State Conference Player of the Year and earned All-State honors, after leading the Lady Cougars to a 23-6 overall record, a Western State Conference-South Division Championship and a berth in the California State Regional Playoffs.
The former West Ranch High School star was selected to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) South Region All-State Second Team after averaging 13.9 points, 13.7 rebounds and a state-leading 6.5 blocks per game while shooting 49.5 percent from the field over 24.3 minutes per game. Her rebounding average also ranked third in the state.
During the season, Green scored in double figures and grabbed double-digit rebounds in 23 contests. She scored 20 or more six times, including a season-high 29, and corralled 15 or more boards on 13 different occasions. She also set the school records for blocked shots in a single game (15) and for a single season (198) and finished with 231 in her two seasons at COC.
Green joins an incoming recruiting class that features Amaria Allen, Frannie Corrigan, Megan Talbot, and Morgan VanHyfte, who all signed during the fall signing period in November.
