NORMAL – No Illinois State football players had their names called during the NFL Draft, but a couple have been given a chance as undrafted free agents.

David Perkins, who had been working out as a defensive end/outside linebacker, is headed west for a chance with the Seattle Seahawks.

Former quarterback Tre Roberson will be catching a plane out west as well, as he has been offered a shot with the San Diego Chargers. Roberson had been working out as a wide receiver/defensive back.

Both were major contributors on last season’s Redbird football team, which tied for the Missouri Valley Football Conference Championship for the second year in a row.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
