Illinois State finalizes roster, juco wing Clayton

NORMAL – The Illinois State Redbirds men’s basketball program has filled its final scholarship for the 2016-17 season with the addition of 6-foot-6, 185 pound guard Derrick Clayton from Palm Beach State.

Clayton announced via Twitter Sunday his intention to continue his athletic and academic career at Illinois State.

The Oakland, California native scored 13.2 points in 31 games for Palm Beach State last year while adding 3.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists each game. He scored a season high 27 points vs St. Petersburg College in a victory for his team.

Clayton spent his freshman year at Western Kentucky University before transferring to Palm Beach State for a season.

The 6-foot-6 guard, who is listed as a three-star recruit according to Rivals.com, will have two years of immediate eligibility with the Redbirds.
