NORMAL – The Normal CornBelters are forfeiting what was a 12-1 win earlier this season against Joliet.
Canadian infielder Kevin Czarnecki, who had one at-bat in the game, was found to not have the proper work visa.
Team President Steve Malliet said it was a “foolish mistake” and they’re voluntarily forfeiting the game.
“It’s one of those things were we messed up on it and our interpretation wasn’t the right one,” said Malliet. “We thought the player was fully legal to play in the game, and the paperwork we had we thought was acceptable, but it was not.”
Czarnecki was released immediately once the problem was discovered. The Cornbelters record is now 2-7.
