SPRINGFIELD – State Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Champaign) has “no idea” why House Democrats are trying to push through another unbalanced budget.
The House passed the budget, which is $7 billion short of revenues, earlier this week.
“I can’t for the life of me figure out what they thought were accomplishing with that exercise,” Rose said. “If they think people are that stupid, that they actually think they’re going to get paid – it’s like check hiking. You’re writing a check you know that can’t be cashed.”
Rose said Democrats are making a “ridiculous statement.”
“They think people are stupid and they don’t think people understand this. They think they can go into the fall election and just get away with it,” said Rose. “I tend to think people are smarter and I think that they’re catching on to (House Speaker) Mike Madigan and his ways.”
Rose added State Rep. Lou Lang (D-Skokie) said this week he doesn’t think there will be a budget for the extent of Governor Rauner’s term. Rose said House Democrats are acting “cynical” and, unlike Senate Democrats, don’t appear to be willing to compromise.
