NORMAL – The Normal CornBelters used a strong pitching performance to capture their second straight win and second consecutive series victory with a 2-0 triumph over the Washington Wild Things on Thursday night at the Corn Crib.
The CornBelters opened the scoring in the third inning by loading the bases and plating Mike Fish on a wild pitch.\
The Belters added insurance on the first pitch of the seventh inning on a Ty Morris home run just inside the left field pole.
Max Homick (2-2) pitched a strong 6 2/3 innings for the win and did not give up a hit until the lead-off batter in the sixth inning, with a total of two hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Chase Cunningham (2-1) received the loss with five innings of four-hit ball with one run (earned) and five walks with five strikeouts. Race Parmenter pitched a perfect ninth inning for his second save.
The home stand continues with a weekend series against East Division-leading Windy City on Friday at 6:35 p.m. CEFCU Fireworks Friday also features a Salute to the Armed Forces, and it’s Wrestling Night with a special guest appearance by WWE Hall of Famer Sgt.
