ISU’s Rutherford finishes 22nd at NCAA track and field finals

EUGENE, Ore – Illinois State senior Ryan Rutherford placed 22nd in the 10,000-meter run at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Bloomington native ran a time of 31:34.05.

Rutherford had a tremendous career at Illinois State and is one of the top-distance runners to run for ISU. He holds four school records in cross country and track. In cross country, Rutherford owns both the 8K school record with a time of 23:50 which was set in 2014 at the NCAA Pre-Nationals, and holds the 10K record at a time of 20:27. Rutherford set the 10K time in 2014 at the NCAA Regionals.

In track and field, Rutherford dominates the distance events as he holds both the 5,000-meter run (13:49.99) and the 10,000-meter run (28:41.23). He set both records in 2014—the 5,000 at Jesse Owens Classic and 10,000 at Stanford Invitational.

In addition to holding countless school records, Rutherford has achieved many accolades in his short four years at ISU. He is a two-time Missouri Valley Conference Champion—one in the indoor 5,000-meter run and one in the outdoor 10,000-meter run, and is a ten-time All-MVC First Team Selection honoree. In 2014, he was named one of Flotracks’ biggest surprises of the 2013-14 season. In cross country, he is a two-time All-Conference First Team Selection honoree.
