TUSCOLA – Alan Beaman, who was wrongfully convicted for the murder of an Illinois State University student, could find out soon whether his lawsuit against three retired police officers in Normal will be allowed to proceed.
Douglas County Judge Richard Broch Jr. said Wednesday he will rule next week on a request by the defense to have the case dismissed.
Beaman served 13 years in prison before the Illinois Supreme Court tossed out his conviction in 2008 for the killing of Jennifer Lockmiller in 1993. Beaman is seeking $50,000 in damages from the town and retired police officers Tim Freesmeyer, Dave Warner and Frank Zayas.
Broch was assigned the case because of conflicts with judges in McLean County.
