Meyer returns as head girls swimming and diving coach at U-High

NORMAL – Michelle Meyer has returned to the position of head girls’ swimming and diving coach at University High School, Normal.

Meyer previously held this position from 1995 to 2000. Meyer has served as the Pioneers’ assistant girls’ swimming &diving coach since 2000 and the head boys’ swimming &diving coach since 1994. Meyer, a graduate of Palatine HS, swam collegiately for Illinois State University.

Meyer, a highly successful coach in both boys’ and girls’ swimming & diving for U-High, has received several coaching awards over her 22 year coaching stint for the Pioneers.

Highlights over her years as the Pioneer head swimming & diving coach include:

  • Boys – 81 wins-31 losses- 1 tie, 6 IHSA sectional titles and 19 years of IHSA state qualifiers. Her teams finished 3rd at state in 2010 and 1st in state in 2014. (The only state championship south of I-80 in the history of the IHSA state championships.)
  • Girls –4 years of IHSA state qualifiers and 5th in state in 1995.

“Coach Meyer is a proven veteran coach who enthusiastically motivates our student-athletes to reach their potential, both individually and as a team,” U-High Athletics Director Wendy Smith said. “Her teams have reached levels rarely seen outside of the suburban Chicago area.”

U-High is currently seeking an assistant boys’ and girls’ swimming & diving coach to fill Coach Meyer’s former position.
