Illinois Wesleyan’s Harmon, Leonard earn top CCIW honors

NAPERVILLE – Illinois Wesleyan’s Max Leonard was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Man of the Year on Monday while fellow Titan Jill Harmon was named the CCIW Woman of the Year.

Leonard, a member of the Titans’ track & field team, won the national title in the discus at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship. He was chosen through a voting process conducted by the CCIW Senior Woman Administrators and Faculty Athletics Representatives.

A native of Glenview, Illinois and Glenbrook South High School, Leonard earned a 3.93 grade-point average while majoring in Physics and Economics at Illinois Wesleyan. He was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America First Team, as well as the ODE Economics Honor Society, PME Mathematics Honor Society and a Phi Betta Kappa initiate.

Harmon earned five NCAA All-America honors in 2016 including three during the indoor season and two during the outdoor season. She was fourth in the indoor pentathlon, sixth in the indoor triple jump, seventh in the 60-meter dash, third in the outdoor heptathlon and third in the outdoor triple jump. She was chosen through a voting process conducted by the CCIW Senior Woman Administrators and Faculty Athletics Representatives.

Harmon’s name was submitted to the NCAA for national Woman of the Year consideration.
