CHICAGO – Local GOP political leaders are looking for a replacement for a prominent state representative who abruptly resigned Sunday.

Suburban Chicago State Rep. Ron Sandack (R-Dist. 81) resigned from his seat in the Illinois General Assembly on Sunday, citing a series of malicious cyber attacks in which his online profiles were cloned numerous times. Sandack said in a statement that he would work with the GOP to ensure that his replacement is elected in November.

Sandack’s replacement will be appointed by DuPage County Republican Chairman Brian Krajewski, who said the resignation was very unexpected.

“I hadn’t heard anything about what was transpiring, so it came as a big surprise that he was resigning immediately,” Krajewski said.

Among the candidates for Sandack’s replacement, Krajewski said some names stand out, but stressed that the appointee will have to be politically electable. Two whom Krajewski mentioned are Downers Grove Commissioner David Olsen, who is likely the favorite, and Downers Grove Mayor Martin Tully.

The appointed GOP representative will face Democrat Greg Hose in November.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
