WJBC Forum: Name calling

Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton calls Donald Trump a racist. Com-on Hillary isn’t that particular “name” kinda used up at this point. Then Donald Trump calls Hillary Crooked Hillary. Since the Republican convention which made Donald Trump the Republican nominee, Donald calls Hillary “the devil”. And that Bernie Sanders made a deal with “the devil”, then continues to call her the devil. Then in what some called a back off of the devil innuendo Trump calls Hillary the “Founder of ISIS”. Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, the Republican vice Presidential candidate recently said he doesn’t believe “name calling has any place in public life”. Thank you, Mike.

Then Hillary’s vice presidential running mate said after the Democratic National Convention. That they “won’t stoop to Donald Trump’s level of name calling during the race for the White house”.

Whew! It looks like the Vice Presidential candidates finally got things under control.

But it didn’t last long.

Hillary responding to some animal rights protesters at one of her rallies said:“Apparently these people are here to protest Trump because Trump and his kids have killed a lot of animals,”

Donald responds by now calling “Hillary Rotten Clinton”.

But wait! There is a third party candidate that has emerged from the fray of the two national conventions. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson. Mr. Johnson in a recent interview said that he stopped using his recreational marijuana while he is running for president.

You’ve got to be kidding! It feels like were in third grade on the playground at recess.  But this is our choice of candidates running for president of the United states!

Here’s my response: Donald! Go stand in the corner and don’t make a peep til the bell rings.

Hillary! Write on the blackboard, “I will not call people names” until the board is full.

Gary…Go to the principle’s office, now!

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

By Mike Matejka Because of COVID, there is no Labor Day Parade this year.  It’s always a great event for our everyday workers to march proudly down the street and enjoys the festive crowd. If there had been a parade, this year’s Labor Day theme was to be “150 years of struggle: your right to vote.” …

Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
