BLOOMINGTON – Gov. Bruce Rauner has been told by a judge to continue negotiating with the state’s largest employee union.

The Rauner administration wants the state labor relations board to declare an impasse.

State Sen. Bill Brady, R-Bloomington, told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin AFSCME’s rank and file that he’s talked to just want to see the dispute be resolved.

“This is a political war between the leadership of AFSCME and the governor,” Brady said. “The governor I think on the finances of what we can afford and the fairness of what we pay and compensate our workers.

“Almost every other union, if not every other union, has agreed to a contract, that’s right along the same lines of what the governor is asking AFCSME to do.”

Union spokesman Anders Lindall has said talks have gone nowhere because the governor has pushed for a judge to intervene. That could lead to a strike of state workers.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
