Illinois Wesleyan football cruises past North Park

CHICAGO – Maurice Shoemaker-Gilmore had a hand in four touchdowns as Illinois Wesleyan avenged its only loss to North Park in 30 years with a 45-10 win over the Vikings at the Holmgren Athletic Complex.

Shoemaker-Gilmore capped a 52-yard drive early in the first quarter with a 21-yard touchdown run for the game’s first points. Later in the first quarter, he ran back a kickoff 88 yards for a score to put IWU up 14-3.

The Central Michigan transfer added a three-yard TD run and a 32-yard scoring pass to Dominic Comfort in the third quarter as the Titans pulled away to the victory.

He finished with 288 yards all-purpose yards, including 150 rushing yards on 20 carries.

Freshman Brandon Bauer was effective in his first start, completing 17 off 22 passes in the first half, including two scoring passes to Quincy Butler.

The Titans’ 27-24 loss at North Park last November was their first to the Vikings in IWU coach Norm Eash’s 30-year tenure.

IWU (2-1, 1-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) host Wheaton next Saturday.
