BLOOMINGTON – The U.S. Supreme Court has denied Bloomington Doctor David Gill’s request to get on the November ballot as an Independent for Illinois’ 13th Congressional District.
Gill had appealed to Justice Elena Kagan after being told by an a federal court in Chicago last week he will not be allowed on the ballot. Gill collected about 2,000 fewer signatures than would be necessary to be on the ballot as a Independent.
Gill said in a statement he plans to take his appeal to a different justice on the Supreme Court.
“We live within a rigged system, designed to protect the major parties and the large financial concerns that sponsor them,” Gill said in a statement.
Republican incumbent Rodney Davis and Democrat Mark Wicklund needed only about 740 signatures each. Gill had needed more than 10,000.
