BLOOMINGTON – A company planning ultra-high-speed internet service has reaffirmed its plans to cover as much of Bloomington-Normal as possible.
Kathy Scheller of MetroNet said a proposed construction map on the company’s web site is colored yellow in areas under construction and blue for proposed areas, but that’s not etched in stone.
“Just because an area is blue does not mean there will be 100 percent service there,” Scheller told WJBC’s Terry James. “We might require pre-commitment to make sure that there is a need because there might be infrastructure problems there, there might be things that we aren’t anticipating.”
Scheller also said just because an area is not colored blue does not mean service won’t be coming, which she said some who viewed the map wrongly assumed. She said the map is far from a final document.
“We probably released it prematurely,” Scheller said, “but after we had that discussion we went back and looked at all of our maps to make sure our intent was clearly identified.”
The map is at construction.metronetinc.com.
