Harvey joins ISU basketball team

NORMAL – Illinois State basketball coach Dan Muller believes a strong freshman class added more strength Tuesday with the signing of Elvis Harvey.

The 6-foot-8, 215-pound Harvey, who comes to ISU from from Oxbridge Academy in West Palm Beach, Florida.

“We are fired up about the addition of Elvis to our already strong freshmen class,” Muller said. “Elvis is your classic late bloomer who has incredible potential.

“He is long, athletic, tough, has good skill, and most importantly, is a great kid. We can’t wait to get Elvis to campus to help him continue to develop on and off the court.”

Harvey led Oxbridge Academy in scoring last season (14.0 points per game), while shooting 57.9 percent (154-266) from the field. He also averaged 7.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.8 steals and 0.9 blocks.

He played in all 28 Oxbridge Academy games, helping lead the ThunderWolves to a school-record 24 wins last year and their first-ever district championship.

A Florida Association of Basketball Coaches Class 3A third-team selection, Harvey also earned a spot on the Palm Beach Post All-Area first team. He was additionally named MVP of the Jupiter Christian Boys Basketball Holiday Classic while earning a spot on the Palm Beach County Boys All-Stars (North) team.

A native of South Bay, Fla., Harvey averaged 9.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocks as a junior.

Harvey joins guard Keyshawn Evans, forward Roland Griffin, guard Matt Hein and center Daouda “David” Ndiaye as freshmen recruits.
