SPRINGFIELD – As election season amps up it’s also debate season, but they have been hard to come by in the U.S. Senate race in Illinois between the incumbent Republican Mark Kirk and Democratic challenger and U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth.

Last week the two sat together for a joint appearance at the Chicago Tribune Editorial Board. Duckworth took to pushing Kirk for more debates while they sat in front of the Tribune.

“Wherever you would like to go debate Senator, I will go there,” Duckworth said to Kirk. “It’s just the two of us. we can do this.”

Kirk said he should do another televised debate in Chicago but that he was tied to the voting schedule in the Senate. He gave far from a solid commitment to do so.

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
