Normal Community and Central Catholic secured berths in the state football playoffs with victories Friday night, while Bloomington and Normal West kept their hopes alive.
NCHS 57, Centennial 28
Normal Community’s football team clinched its 21st consecutive state playoff bid with 57-28 win over Champaign Centennial in Big 12 Conference action at Champaign.
Daylan Boddie, starting for injured Grant Price at quarterback, rushed for 139 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns. He completed 4 of 10 passes for 49 yards and one touchdown.
Varshaun Dixon had 161 yards on 14 carries and three touchdowns as the Ironmen moved to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference.
NCHS led 37-6 at half added two early third quarter scores to start a running clock.
BHS 34, Richwoods 33
Colton Sandage completed a touchdown pass to Cary Lockhart in overtime as the Purple Raiders escaped with a Big 12 Conference win in Peoria.
Richwoods had a chance to win the game in overtime, but after Keenan Steitmatter scored on a 1-yard run, but a pass off a fake conversion kick was incomplete.
Sandage was 7 of 13 for 78 yards and three touchdowns. Catching touchdown passes were Avonni Brown for 24 yards, Dom Criddell for 10-yards and Lockhart.
BHS also got touchdowns from Criddell on an 80-yard kickoff return and a 65-yard pass interception by Noah Nobling.
The Purple Raiders moved to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
West 62, Manual 6
The Wildcats jumped to a 55-6 halftime lead and cruised to their third victory in seven games and moved their Big 12 Conference record to 3-3 in Peoria.
Genesis Forrest and Malik Tucker both scored a pair of touchdowns. CJ Lewis scored West’s first touchdown on a 20-yard pass. Forrest followed with his touchdowns on a 2-yard run and a 20-yard pass reception.
Tucker scored on runs of 8 and 4 yards, while the Wildcats received scored from when Matt Marciniak forced a fumble and Skyler Hufeld recovered and returned it 50 yards for a score.
Other West touchdowns came from Armani Forrest on a 20-yard pass, Camani Jordan on a 10-yard pass and Ryan Ashenbremmer on a 2-yard run. Matt Lage was successful on seven conversion kicks.
Quarterback Peyton Dillingham was 14 of 21 passing for 213 yards and five touchdowns, Genesis Forrest had 85 yards on seven carries.
