BLOOMINGTON – Central Illinois is still weeks, possibly months away from winter, but the Salvation Army of McLean County is already handing out coats for the colder months ahead.
Salvation Army development director Angie Fulton told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin the first distribution day on Monday was busy.
“If there’s a coat you’re not wearing anymore, think about giving it to us so we can find somebody who needs it,” Fulton said.
The Salvation Army gave out close to 900 coats last winter and is handing out coats every Monday and Wednesday morning at its officers at 611 W. Washington St. in Bloomington.
“We have many adults that have come in, a lot of people with medical issues and people who are struggling to make ends meet,” Fulton said. “Obviously with kids everyone know you are buying a new coat every year because they are outgrowing it.”
Coats can be dropped off there and at local Gold’s Gym and Commerce Bank locations through Jan. 25.
