Cardinals, ISU softball in MVC tourney semis on WJBC

The St. Louis Cardinals open a six-game road trip in Pittsburgh tonight against the slumping Pirates.

The Cardinals have won nine of their last 10 games while the Pirates have lost five out of six.

Michael Wacha looks to continue the perfect start to his season (4-0) as he goes up against veteran lefthander Francisco Liriano (1-1).

Mike Shannon and John Rooney will provide the game descriptions on WJBC 1230 AM and the Cardinals Radio Network starting at 5:55 p.m.

The Illinois State softball team takes on No. 2 seed Missouri State in the semifinals of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in Wichita, Kansas. The Redbirds advanced with wins over Bradley and Northern Iowa on Thursday.

The game is set for 1:30 p.m. here on WJBC.com. The winner will play in the final at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Illinois State baseball team will make the quick trip to Peoria this weekend for a key three-game Missouri Valley Conference series with Bradley.

Friday’s opener is set for a 6 p.m. start. This weekend’s series will play a major role in conference tournament seeding, with each team having just three games left on its schedule after this weekend. Bradley (31-13, 9-6 MVC) currently sits in third place in the league standings, while the Redbirds (24-22, 6-9) are tied for fifth.
