NORMAL – Illinois State basketball forward Deontae Hawkins is suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules.

Coach Dan Muller made the announcement Monday.

Jail records show Bloomington Police arrested Hawkins, 23, early Sunday morning on suspicion of drunk driving, illegal transportation of alcohol and driving on a suspended licence. He was also suspended from the team before the 2015 season following the team’s offseason exhibition trip to Spain.

Hawkins averaged 10.3 point per game in 2015-2016 while playing in all 32 games last season.

He transferred to ISU after the 2012-2013 season, which he spent at at Quakerdale Promise Academy in New Providence, Iowa.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
