ST. LOUIS – Illinois State’s Sara Stankoskey has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, following standout performances last week at home against Kansas State and at Evansville, where ISU clinched the regular season conference title.

The senior anchored the Redbird defense in its two victories which only allowed one goal and allowed keeper Haley Smith to lay low and not make a single save in the 2-0 win over Kansas State. She played all 90 minutes in the 2-1 win over Evansville and notched an assist on the first goal that tied the match in the 83rd minute.

Stankoskey and her teammates are back in action this week, hosting UNI in their final game of regular season. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Adelaide Street Field.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
