SPRINGFIELD – The so-called Safe Roads amendment which requires Illinois transportation funding be spent on infrastructure projects easily passed in a statewide referendum.
State Rep. Bill Mitchell (R-Forsyth) was elected to a 10th term in the Illinois House district which covers parts of McLean, DeWitt, Piatt, Macon and Champaign counties. He easily defeated Democrat Christine Law of Forsyth.
Voters in Yates Township have overwhelmingly approved $150,000 in bonds for road work.
Voter turnout was 73 percent in McLean County and in Bloomington.
