WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis, R-Taylorville, said he’s looking forward to getting to work in Washington with Republicans in full control – the House, Senate and now the White House – with Donald Trump’s election as president.
Davis, who easily won election to his U.S. House seat on Tuesday, had withdrawn his support of Trump a few weeks ago after some disparaging remarks about women from an 11-year-old recording were revealed.

Davis told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin, he believes Trump will look to unite the Republican Party.
“I think the new president-elect is going to have a lot to deal with besides having a divided Republican Party,” Davis said.
Davis said his first order of business should be nominate a Supreme Court justice who he said will uphold the Second Amendment and uphold the sanctity of life, though he didn’t say whether the court might revisit Roe versus Wade which legalizes abortion.
Davis added he hopes Trump and Congress will work together on getting government spending under control, but will have to “walk the walk’ ”
“It’s the first opportunity I’ve had to serve in an undivided government,” Davis said. “Now is the time for us Republicans to not just talk about what we want to do to solve problems, we now have the majority to do it.”
