CornBelters shutout Rascals on opening night

O’FALLON, MO – The Normal CornBelters used solid offense, pitching and defense and won the 2015 season opener 8-0 over the River City Rascals on Friday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.

The CornBelters began the scoring in the third inning on a three-run homer by Pat McKenna over the right-center field wall. Santiago Chirino doubled to the base of the wall at the same spot in the fourth inning to increase the advantage to 4-0.

The Belters built the lead to 7-0 in the fifth when McKenna doubled to the left center wall and scored on a home run to right center by Sam Judah, then loaded the bases and scored on a sacrifice fly by Chirino.

Chris Carmain twirled seven solid innings for the win, allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out five. Rascals starter Dane Stone went four innings and took the loss, giving up six hits and four runs with one walk and four strikeouts.
