PONTIAC – One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Some Chicago Cubs’ memorabilia has been taken from the Pontiac landfill.
The Cubs dug up paving bricks outside Wrigley Field to make way for a ballpark renovation. Fans bought and had personalized messages inscribed for $160 each only to find those bricks turning up in Pontiac, according to the Pontiac Daily Leader.
The Cubs have issued a statement on Tuesday saying fans who bought the pavers were already told they would be replaced because many of them would likely be damaged and that each buyer would get a replica brick too.
An official with Republic Services who the Cubs hired to dispose of the bricks told the Chicago Tribune he doesn’t know how many pavers were stolen or who did it.
The Cubs started selling the bricks in 2006.
