William G. “Bill” Burns, 55, of Bloomington, died at 9:25 p.m. on May 24 at his home.
A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Bloomington, with Rev. R. Anthony Lee officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church (10-11a.m.). Inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded by Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. He was born Feb. 11, 1960 in Peoria, son of William P. and JoAnne Kearney Burns. He married Karen Mann on Jan. 21, 1984.
Surviving are his father, William P. Burns of Bloomington; two sons, Travis and John Burns, both of Beeville, Texas and his granddaughter, Makayla Burns of Beeville, Texas. Also surviving are one sister, Marie Burns of Bloomington; one brother, James Obenland of Normal and his ex-wife and friend, Karen Conder of Beeville, Texas; one nephew, Daniel Raiz of Bloomington and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, JoAnne Burns.
Bill worked as a janitor at the Marc Center in Bloomington. He enjoyed listening to country music and loved John Wayne movies and memorabilia. He was a hard worker and a family man, spending as much time with his boys as possible.
James A. “Jim” Logsdon, Sr., 66, of Bloomington, passed away at 10:58 p.m. on May 21 at his residence in Bloomington.
His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington with Pastor Steve Evans officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the memorial home.
Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Bloomington. Full military rites will be accorded by Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Jim was born on Feb. 7, 1949 in Pekin, Illinois, a son of Clyde and Ruth (Jackson) Logsdon. He married Carol Trenary Zimmerman on July 19, 1975 in Bloomington.
Surviving are his wife, Carol of Bloomington, his children, Brenda (Kent) Nichols of Bloomington, Joyce (Jamie) Eimer of Bloomington, Jeff Zimmerman of Pontiac, Scott (Lisa) Kenney of Park Forest, Ill., Jeff (Judy) Kenney of Saybrook, Ill., Bridget Logsdon Isted of Bloomington, James (Jackie) Logsdon Jr of Bloomington, Greg Arbuckle of Lincoln, Ark. Grandchildren: Jessica, Jennifer and Dalton Arbuckle; Taylor and Logan Nichols; Zachary Eimer; RaeAnn, William and Cole Harsh; James Logsdon III, Katelyn, Cheyanne, Ethan, Briley, Allie, Anissa and Devon Kenney; Amber Krauze, Dylan, BreAnna, and Johnny Kenney. Also surviving are two sisters, Trina Megan and Lulu (Frank) McMullen both of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Brian Logsdon and a son-in law, Jeff Isted.
Jim Proudly served in the U.S. Army Fourth Infantry Div., during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1970.
He was a carpenter with Local 63. Retiring with disabilities in 1993.
Jim was a member of VietNow, Vietnam Veterans of America, American Legion Post 635, Disabled American Veterans, and a founding member of Fifty American Flags Living Memorial. He was given the Order of the Silver Rose on May 21, 2001.
He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and a Dallas Cowboys fan. He loved NASCAR and Jeff Gordon. He was a huge supporter of veteran’s rights.
He was loved and will be missed by his family and friends.
Jim was killed in Vietnam, it just took him this long to die!
