BLOOMINGTON – Fake news has been a national headline and a candidate for Bloomington mayor is claiming it’s an issue locally.
Robert Fike says a fellow candidate for mayor, Ian Bayne, has purchased a domain name in his name and is spreading false information. He biggest claim, Fike said, was that he’s used drugs and has been in rehab.
“Which is completely false,” said Fike. “He’s hacked into my Facebook account. I.P. addresses are a wonderful thing because you can look up and see where they are.”
In response, Bayne said he knows nothing about the claims being made.
“I don’t know the man. I know nothing about him,” Bayne said.
A primary next month will narrow the field of candidates for mayor from five to two.
