BLOOMINGTON – A dozen athletes from Intercity high schools will celebrate their signings with college programs Wednesday on national signing day.
Four of the athletes are bound for Division I programs. The group includes a pair heading to Illinois State in University High’s Sarah Lafayette for soccer and Bloomington’s John Ridgeway III for football.
Others going to Division I programs are Normal Community soccer players Alyssa Frazier (the University of Mississippi) and Kayla Byrd (Southeast Missouri State).
Normal West has six athletes continuing their college careers as Amanda Rogers is headed to Illinois Wesleyan for softball as well as Olivia Haas, who is going to Lake Land. Wildcats’ soccer players continuing careers are Allie Mitchell (St. Ambrose) and Gabi Toulon (Central College in Iowa). Nick Piller will play baseball at Knox College and Brett Porter will play football at St. Ambrose.
Intercity football players Daniel Sorensen of Bloomington will go to Monmouth and Steven Towns of Normal Community will play at McKendree.
Central Catholic does not have anyone signing Wednesday. The list of athletes was submitted by the high school’s athletic directors.
