BELLEVILLE – Gov. Bruce Rauner is highlighting the Lead Higher initiative aimed at getting more low-income and minority high schoolers to take courses for college credit.
Illinois is the first state in the country to take part in the national effort. During a visit to Belleville West High School, Rauner said the idea is to help enroll more students in advanced placement and dual credit courses.
“If they want to go to college, they can already have college credits applied so they can graduate faster or be more cost-effective in getting their college degree,” Rauner said.
Rauner noted many students are ready to succeed if just given the chance and a little guidance.
