NORMAL – The Town of Normal is hoping to save time and money with its planned resurfacing of Towanda Avenue.
The Town Council will consider an $814,000 contract on Monday for Rowe Construction of Bloomington. City Manager Mark Peterson said the town won’t replace the concrete, it will simply remove the top layer and add an asphalt overlay to the road from Interstate 55 to Ironwood subdivision.
“We think this approach is less expensive and will be much less of a burden on the neighborhood,” Peterson said, adding the project to be done this summer will likely take weeks rather than the months it would take to replace the concrete.
Peterson added the road dates back to the 1980s.
“It has deteriorate significantly,” Peterson said.
The contract also allows for new Ironwood golf cart tunnels under Towanda. The road work would be done this summer.
