NORMAL – Residents held another rally in Uptown Normal Thursday, calling on U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) to have a town hall with his constituents to discuss health care.

Davis held a tele-town hall with residents in the district last week, but Jodie Slothower said they would prefer a face-to-face meeting, or even something electronic like a video chat.

“We are not professionals, matter of fact we are very much amateurs here,” said Slothower. “We legitimately want to get our voice heard. We feel that no matter who our representatives, we want our voice to be heard.”

Slothower added they’re primary concern is health care.

“Republicans have said they’re going to change healthcare and I think that a lot of people have just legitimate questions about how it’s gonna change,” she said.

In an email, Davis said his teleconference last week had 7,500 participants where he answered many question surrounding healthcare. He added he has proposed a bill which would protect people with pre-existing conditions from losing their health coverage.

The rally was organized by Voices for Reason, a group of progressive voters in Central Illinois. Another rally took place at U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood’s (R-Peoria) Bloomington office Thursday afternoon.
