Woman arrested in Tazewell County shooting

PEKIN – A rural Tazewell County woman has been jailed on attempted murder charges.

Tazewell County Sheriff’s Police said they were called to a home in rural Pekin at 6 a.m. Thursday on a report that a man had been shot and had left the residence while the suspect was still there.

Deputies arrived at the home and found the suspect, Karen Garman, sitting on a step outside of the residence speaking on her cell phone.

The victim who police identified as Kevin Garman was taken by ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Peoria for treatment of a gunshot wound to the leg. Police say his injuries are not life-threatening.

Police say they recovered the gun used in the shooting.
