Good credit news for Illinois

SPRINGFIELD – It might sound as rare as man bites dog.

Illinois has good news when it comes to its credit rating. S&P Global Ratings has issued The Illinois Funds investment pool a AAAm credit rating, the highest mark available.

Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs said the rating reflects his office’s approach to investing taxpayer dollars.

“The rating shows our success at balancing the access and availability of funds while receiving a strong return on investment for this type of product,” Frerichs said.

The Illinois Funds is a local government investment pool that invests dollars from local units of government such as counties, municipalities, and school districts. Investing together generates rates of return typically not available if participants invested alone.
