COLLINSVILLE – Ameren Illinois is moving forward with a significant upgrade throughout the state.

The utility’s Kenny Blum says the improvements will occur over the next decade.

“It’s part of Ameren Illinois’ modernization action plan and over the next 10 years we are going to be investing $3.5 billion in improving our aging infrastructure that’s over 100 years old,” Blum said. “We know there’s smart technology out there that can improve reliability for our customers.”

Improvements will be made to substations, transformers, poles and switches.

The utility has also filed a plan with the Illinois Commerce Commission that would lower monthly electric bills by $1.70 per month. It’s the fifth rate decrease the company filed since 2011.

“Illinois’ progressive energy policy is paving the way for Ameren Illinois to build a smarter grid and deliver value to our customers in central and southern Illinois,” said Craig Nelson, senior vice president, Regulatory Affairs and Financial Services for Ameren.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
