BLOOMINGTON – The Illinois Senate has approved a measure to give the state the power to regulate gun dealers, something that’s already done at the federal level.

State Sen. Bill Brady who opposed the measure, told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin and Patti Penn, creating a new level of regulations amounts to harassment of gun dealers.

“If these gun dealers are violating the law, then they’ve got ample laws to crack down on them and I don’t think we need to add another layer of bureaucracy when we have federal laws and existing laws.”

Critics also raised concern that exempting big box stores from the regulations could cause smaller gun dealers to close. The measure awaits a vote on the Illinois House.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
