HUDSON – The Village of Hudson is without a mayor. The man elected to the post a month ago tendered his resignation Wednesday, only a day after he took the oath for a four-year term.
In a text, Jason Collins told WJBC he resigned for personal reasons, and denied his sudden departure had anything to do with the reappointment Tuesday night of police chief Dale Sparks.
Tuesday’s village board meeting was moved from the library to the bigger town hall to accommodate approximately 50 Hudson residents who showed up to support Sparks. In his text, Collins said he nominated Sparks to continue as chief and that he “never brought anyone else in front of the board” for the chief’s job.
Collins was first elected to the village board in 2009 and was appointed two years ago as mayor when Mark Kotte resigned. It’s up to the village board to pick the next mayor.
Hudson has a population of almost 1,900, and as one resident noted, many police officers, firefighters, and correctional officers live there.
