WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin called for greater resources to be brought to the table in the ongoing investigation of Russian involvement in the Presidential election.

Durbin addressed members of the Senate Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism.

“What we have seen with this situation calls for the appointment of an independent commission – a presidential commission or a congressional commission – one that is clearly independent, transparent and can get to the bottom of the Russian involvement in our last election process and the threat we face in the future because of it,” Durbin said.

Durbin expressed concerns about former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn’s involvement in sensitive foreign policy actions after Acting Attorney General Sally Yates expressed concerns about Flynn’s communications with Russia.

“General Flynn continued to serve as National Security Advisor for 18 days after you had briefed the White House about the counterintelligense risk that he posed,” he told Yates as she testified Monday during a Senate hearing.

The Subcommittee has investigating Russian activity since March.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
