Bloomington-Normal Sports Commission names Athlete of Year nominees

BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington-Normal Sports Commission has announced the nominees for its annual student athlete awards.

The Female Athlete of the Year nominees are Grace Feeney of El-Paso Gridley, Alyssa Frazier of Normal Community and Ellie Weltha of Bloomington.

The Male Athlete of the Year nominees are Peyton Dillingham of Normal West, Jake McCaw of NCHS and John Ridgeway the third at Bloomington.

The winners will be named during the State Farm Student Athlete Recognition banquet on June 19 at 7 p.m. at the Chateau Hotel and Conference Center, 1621 Jumer Dr, Bloomington.

Bloomington native and former track Olympian Christin Wurth-Thomas will be the guest speaker.

– Central Catholic Basketball
– Heyworth Softball
– U-High Soccer

Male Team of the Year
– Bloomington Basketball
– Bloomington Track and Field
– U-High Soccer

Coach of the Year, Female Sport
– Debbie Coffman, Central Catholic Basketball
– Tony Griffin, Heyworth Basketball
– George Van Winkle, Heyworth Softball

Coach of the Year, Male Sport
– Pete Cleary, Olympia Wrestling
